The Cocktails hold auditions at the beginning of each semester. Usually, each 10-15 minute audition has six parts.

Range Check
You will do a warm-up exercise, dropping out when it gets too high or low.

Pitch Check
A series of pitches will be played on the piano and you will be expected to sing them back.

Sight Reading
You will be asked to sight read a four measure melody. However, the ability to sight read is NOT a requirement for membership in The Cocktails. Don't let this part of the audition deter you!

My Country Tis of Thee
You will sing My Country Tis of Thee to give members a common basis of comparison. This part of the audition also allows you to show off your style and song interpretation.

Blending Exercise
You will be given sheet music for a short exerpt of a previously performed song at the audition info meeting. After picking a voice part, you will sing in a quartet with a Cocktail on each of the other parts. The blending exercise is a critical part of the audition process because the ability to blend with the group is the most important characteristic in a prospective member.

Solo
Finally, you will perform a verse and chorus of the song of your choice. This is your chance to show us what you can do! Pick a song that you think is appropriate for your voice and really puts your strengths on display.
